Gail Horowitz, a New York City native, earned her Ph.D. in science education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Gail has enjoyed science since high school and was encouraged by her father, a civil engineer, in her quest to find out how things worked. She pursued her love of teaching organic chemistry at the college level for almost 30 years and worked with first-generation college students at Brooklyn College before coming to Poly in 2019. She published a book, Teaching STEM to First Generation College Students. At Poly, Gail teaches Advanced Chemistry to Grade 9 and AP Chemistry to Grade 12 students. She stresses the importance of self-regulated learning and students learning the skills to become successful students. As a new faculty member, she had the job of organizing the lab equipment and finding treasures that may have been forgotten.
Gail is a twin and has heard all the questions about being a twin. Her twin sister is a computer programmer.
